Welcome to Emerald Dragon Karate, Slatington and surrounding areas.
Emerald Dragon Karate is privileged to serve the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas with the highest quality of Martial Arts possible. Master Brian Kates is proud to have developed a talented team of Certified Instructors, teaching students of all ages and abilities. Students train in Sa-Gi-Do, a style of karate that is a well rounded, exciting, and powerful collection of 5 traditional arts. We teach an extensive martial arts program helping families to feel safer and lead a healthier life! Our goal is to make every student,
young or old, a quality Black Belt that will carry with him/her all of the knowledge, techniques, and values that the martial arts has to offer them. Contrary to what most people believe, the Martial Arts does not teach a "fighting spirit."
We at Emerald Dragon Karate, as well as other Martial Arts schools, teach defensive skills, discipline, and street awareness. We feel the Martial Arts is a tool that is used to bring out the good in people, and a tool that teaches precious skills that all people in today's society require. The difference between Emerald Dragon Karate and other Martial Arts schools, is that our certified Instructors teach a style and program geared for people of all ages, weight classes, and abilities.
Hey, one of the Black Belts from this school. Absolutely love it here! All the staff is fun and friendly, they take teaching here seriously, you'll learn a ton about the Martial Arts and yourself! They'll push you to be the best Martial Artist/Individual you can be.
Emerald Dragon has many classes to offer for all ages. They have the Little Dragons for young kids, Tigers for teens, and the Adults/Black Belt classes. If you feel like you need some kind of motivation or just need a place to have a little fun and workout this is the place for you! Emerald Dragon will treat you like family as soon as you step into the door. If I wouldn't have moved I'd still be going to this day!
I have been a member of Emerald Dragon Karate for twenty. To explain how EDK helped me and shaped who I am could fill volumes. In short, EDK gave me the confidence and skills to set goals, implement a plan action, and ultimately reach those goals. Somewhere in there, EDK managed to teach me karate, too.
EDK and the art of Sa-Gi-Do is more than kicks and punches. When one becomes dedicated to the pursuit of studying a traditional art such as this, and under the guidance of experienced and passionate people, the rewards surpass physical ability. I became an EDK instructor in 1999, and the experiences I have had got me ready to succeed in the professional world as a public school teacher.
In short, you will join EDK for any number of reasons most of which will be tied to physicality. You will stay with EDK because of reasons more emotional and mental.
I was a member of emerald dragon karate for about 10 years. It was my second home and second family. I met so many people there throughout my life. It taught me discipline and self perseverance. I loved going to class every week. Brian and his family really take you in as their own. I really felt like I was a part of their family and team. I had to stop my training because I got sick and then went to school, but Brian and his family (as well as other members of emerald dragon karate) are still there for me and it has been 9 years since I have stopped going continuously. Once you're part of the EDK family, it never leaves you. If I would walk back into the karate school, it would still be home. I encourage everyone to become part of the family. It taught me somuch and helped mold me into the person I am today. Thanks EDK!!!
I have been training at Emerald Dragon Karate for 14 years. I started with my best friend in kindergarten and haven't stopped since. I played soccer and football while in school and it is thanks to karate that I had the skills and discipline required to play these sports. And even after organized sports ended karate is still there for me to train and advance in. I cannot imagine ever STOPPING my journey in the martial arts. It's been amazing.
